How much do dental implants cost?

This is often the most common asked question when patients call our office to inquire about dental implants. This question is also the most difficult to address due to the extensive variations in cost. While receiving the most value for your dollar is important. It is equally important to understand that dental implant treatment is a procedure, a process and a service rather than a product. This service involves the process of the surgical placement of a medical device in your body. It is expected that the surgical process be carried out with predictable healing and little or no complications. The expected outcome of this service is a natural looking, normally functioning dental implant that should last for a lifetime. To achieve such outcome it takes a knowledgeable, experienced and skillful dental implant surgeon first and a high quality dental implant second.

Becoming a good implant surgeon and restorative dentist is a lifelong process. It takes time, dedication, extensive training and experience to master the art and science of dental implant surgery. A successful implant surgery results in a beautiful natural looking tooth with no complications, predictable healing and minimal discomfort. This is the first primary reason for the variation in dental implant cost.

The second primary reason for the variation in dental implant cost is the quality of dental implant. Not all dental implants are the same. A high quality dental implant can cost the dentist as much as 10 times as the cheaper lower quality counterparts. While there are over 150 dental implants on the market today in the United States, only three dental implant manufacturers are certified by the American Dental Association. These manufacturers are Nobel Biocare, Astra and Straumann. The American Dental Association implant certification is much more stringent than the FDA certification.

Other factors that affect the cost of dental implants cost include, the need for additional procedures, complexity of implant surgery, the number of implants, dental lab cost, the type of abutment and crown.

In reality dental implants are more expensive than alternative treatment options. However, dental implants are by far the best option to replace missing teeth. Dental implants are a lifetime investment and in the long run dental implants are the least costly tooth replacement treatment.

Our fees fall within the average range of dental implants procedure fees in the Portland metro area. It is important to note that we utilize Nobel Biocare dental implants. Nobel Biocare implants are among the highest quality implants made in the United States.

Our patients appreciate our philosophy of absolute transparency. This is especially important when it come to finances. We feel that outlining cost of implants is vital to establishing trusting relationship with our patients.
