If you have a toothache, or if you’ve experienced trauma to your mouth or teeth, don’t try to treat it yourself. Call Optima Dental now, and Dr. Saleh or Dr. Shaer will see you today. He or she will perform a simple procedure to get you out of pain, identify the problem, and recommend treatment options.
Do You Really Need to See an Emergency Dentist?
Over-the-counter pain medication or at-home care might give you some relief, but they don’t resolve the cause of your discomfort. Below are a few reasons to see an emergency dentist.
- Pain – If you have a toothache, it’s likely that the pulp (living tissue) in your tooth is infected. If it’s left untreated, it will get worse. An infected tooth requires root canal treatment to remove the pulp, clean the roots, and disinfect the tooth. A dental filler material will replace the pulp and seal the canals to prevent further infection. The tooth is protected with a dental crown.
- Trauma – Injury to your mouth or teeth is also reason to see a dentist right away. Your teeth and oral cavities need to be checked for internal and external damage. A broken or cracked tooth can get worse if it’s not treated.
- Lost or damaged crown or filling – Crowns and fillings protect weak teeth. If a crown or a filling is lost or damaged, it needs to be replaced to prevent decay or damage to your natural tooth.
