Lumineers are one of many brands of porcelain veneers. This brand, made by the Den-Mat company, is widely marketed as being ultra-thin, very strong, and requiring no preparation of your natural teeth. In Portland and Lake Oswego, Dr. Saleh and Dr. Shaer are very familiar with Lumineers. But most often, they prefer other brands for highly aesthetic results.
How Do Lumineers Compare to Other Brands?
- Traditional veneers are 0.5 mm thick. In addition to Lumineers, there are other brands of ultra-thin veneers that are only 0.3 mm thick yet very strong. But more than just the brand of veneers is required for great results. Proper bonding has a significant impact on their strength.
- Lumineers and other brands of ultra-thin veneers can be placed in as few as two visits, but the process should not be rushed. Dr. Saleh and Dr. Shaer ensure your smile makeover looks and feels exactly as you want it before the veneers are bonded to your teeth—even if it requires multiple visits.
- No-prep veneers are appropriate in some cases, but preparation might be recommended so your porcelain veneers look natural—not bulky.
Many cosmetic dentists, including Dr. Saleh and Dr. Shaer, agree that Lumineers often make your smile look bulky or pasty. Frequently, the results produced by the Den-Mat laboratory don’t look personalized and natural.
Alternatives to Lumineers
Dr. Saleh and Dr. Shaer have advanced training in cosmetic dentistry. Although they have used Lumineers in some cases, most often they prefer other brands for highly aesthetic results. They have an on-site laboratory and a ceramist who crafts lifelike ultra-thin veneers that mimic natural teeth. Our dentists guarantee that you will love your smile makeover.
Below are before-and-after pictures of one of our patients who received ultra-thin veneers made in our dental lab. The patient now has a beautiful smile with natural-looking color, translucence, and gloss.
At Optima Dental, you will receive individualized treatment. Dr. Saleh or Dr. Shear will discuss the type of porcelain veneers that will work best for you and whether or not preparation of your teeth is recommended. They will help you understand your options and explain the results you can expect.
Throughout the process of your smile makeover, you’ll be continually asked to provide feedback on the look and feel of your porcelain veneers to ensure you receive the smile you’ve always wanted.
