If you have metal allergies or sensitivities, Optima Dental in Portland and Lake Oswego provides metal-free dentistry. Whether you need minor or major dental work, Dr. Saleh and Dr. Shaer offer biocompatible options to restore and preserve teeth—or replace missing teeth—and support your well-being.
Comprehensive Options for Metal-Free Dentistry
Our use of the latest metal-free materials helps prevent reactions to dental restorations.
At Optima Dental, we haven’t used amalgam (“silver”) fillings since 2001. These fillings contain 50% mercury and include other metals. Our dentists use composite fillings, which preserve more of your healthy tooth structure than amalgam. Composite fillings are metal free and won’t cause sensitivities or an allergic reaction. They bond to and strengthen teeth. Dr. Saleh or Dr. Shaer will choose a shade of composite that matches the color of your natural teeth.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns lack translucence and eventually show through as a dark line near your gumline. They can cause a reaction if you have metal allergies or sensitivities. Dr. Saleh and Dr. Shaer use metal-free, highly aesthetic alternatives that are durable. All-ceramic crowns are biocompatible and natural looking. They have several advantages:
- Extraordinary strength
- Aesthetic, translucent, and blend with your natural teeth
- Metal-free and won’t darken around your gumline or cause an adverse reaction
Zirconia is a metal-free, biocompatible dental ceramic that has the translucence of natural teeth. It is extraordinarily strong and can be used for a dental bridge to replace missing teeth and give you a healthy, natural-looking smile that will last.
Zirconia dental implants
Zirconia dental implants are a metal-free alternative to traditional titanium implants. They are biocompatible, durable, and highly aesthetic. Visit our zirconia dental implants page to learn more about this treatment.
