Craigslist for a Ride to Sedation Appointment
December 31, 2018 9:39 pm |I have to have a tooth extracted which my dentist thinks will be a challenge. He wants me to use dental sedation. I think he called it sleep dentistry, so that may be different. The only real hiccup I see is he says I need a ride to and from the appointment. Here’s the rub. I am new to the area and don’t have any family around me. I usually call Uber when I need to go somewhere. I had told him no biggie, I always use Uber and he said that’s not what he means. They’ll have to stay with me throughout the appointment and after. I don’t know anyone who can do this. I’m thinking of hiring someone to help through Craigslist. Is this an option you’ve seen other patient’s do? I’m afraid to ask my dentist about it because he already nixed my last idea and I don’t have any after this. Laura. Dear Laura,
It’s hard being the new girl. I’m having flashbacks to all the times my parents moved during elementary school and I had to stand in front of a sea of strangers and hope they’d be nice to me. You’re in a similar situation, but more serious.
Craigslist isn’t a safe option for you. Here’s why. First, sleep dentistry and dental sedation are the same thing. You’ll take a pill and no longer care about anything. You’ll be completely relaxed and not very steady on your feet.
With Craigslist, you won’t know anything about the person on the other side of the computer. Even after you meet them, if you do an interview, they could lie about everything. Would you trust yourself, your body, your home and belongings, to a complete stranger?
It’s not safe.
Helping You Get Sedation Dental Care
That doesn’t mean you’re out of options. I would first contact your insurance and see if they have a home health policy for someone in your situation. If they don’t or you don’t have dental insurance, the next thing I’d do is call a local church. You don’t have to be a member for some churches to help you. Many would be more than happy to assist someone in need as you are. After all, the parable of the Good Samaritan should be in their minds. The best thing about that is a Bishop, Priest, or Pastor would likely recommend someone from their church who has the type of character you can feel comfortable with.
