Should I Go to the ER for Dental Emergencies?
February 20, 2021 8:58 am |You may think that the emergency room is the best place to been seen for all health-related emergencies. But did you know that many dentists, including Optima Dental Spa, actually provide emergency dentistry? In this blog post, we give some tips to help you know when you should head to the ER vs. when you should see an emergency dentist.
Reasons to Visit the ER
Here’s an easy rule you can follow: If your dental emergency also involves an injury to your jaw or other areas of your face, it’s best that you go to the emergency room. For example, if you think you’ve fractured, dislocated, or broken your jaw then you want to get medical treatment as soon as possible from a hospital emergency room. Another good rule of thumb is that if your dental injury is making it difficult for you to breathe, you should call 911. This is a life-threatening condition and you shouldn’t wait to get medical assistance!Reasons to See an Emergency Dentist
You can be seen by an emergency dentist for dental conditions that are urgent but not life-threatening. For example, cracking or breaking a tooth, getting a permanent tooth knocked out, a severe toothache or dental infection, broken dentures, or a lost filling. In all of these cases, it’s best to seek immediate help, but it’s not necessary to visit the ER.Consult with Our Team!
