How to Maintain Good Oral Health with ClearCorrect
August 21, 2020 8:51 pm |If you have ClearCorrect™, then you’re well on your way to a straighter smile. But don’t forget that as you progress along your orthodontic journey, it’s important to take good care of your oral health. That way when your treatment is over, your smile isn’t just more attractive, it’s still healthy too! Here are some tips for maintaining good dental health with your ClearCorrect aligners:
Rinse When You Remove
Whenever you take out your ClearCorrect aligners, the first thing you should do is rinse them. Even if you think your teeth are clean and you don’t see anything on the aligners, there’s still saliva and potentially plaque that should be washed away. Frequently rinsing your aligners in cool or lukewarm water helps keep your aligners bacteria-free, which reduces your risk of tooth decay, bad breath, gum disease, and tooth discoloration.
Brush Before Putting Back In
Before you put your ClearCorrect aligners back in, make sure to gently brush both your teeth and the aligner trays. This is true even if you just took them out to have a little snack! You don’t want any leftover pieces of food on or between your teeth to be trapped there by the aligners. While you should brush your teeth with toothpaste, brush your aligners with liquid dish soap. Toothpaste can be too abrasive for your aligners, leading to scratches.
Schedule Routine Dental Checkups
In addition to visits where you’ll get your new set of aligners, be sure to schedule biannual cleanings and checkups at Optima Dental Spa. Our team will scrape away any plaque and tartar from your teeth, and address any other dental issues we find. We can also provide additional insights into at-home oral health habits that will keep your teeth and gums healthy.
